Shepshed Gateway Feature - Kirkhill

This sculpture formed part of Leicestershires Market Town Programme which amongst other aims to make the smaller centre more welcoming and these improvements include streetscape improvements such as improved signage, new footways etc together with newsletters for businesses and a shopping guide.

The artwork cost £20,000 and was funded largely by the LSEP (LeicesterShire Economic partnership)with some Leicestershire County Council support.

The artwork was commissioned following workshops which were held during Summer 2005 with local school children in Shepshed. The children's perception of Shepshed was built into the design, together with the local heritage of sheep and woodlands. The artist was Anu Patel.

Purse chains handed out free to shoppers in Leicester city centre

Christmas shoppers in Leicester city centre are being given purse bells and chains to try and prevent thefts from handbags over the festive period.

The chain can be used to attach a purse to a handbag to make it more difficult to steal. Meanwhile the bells will alert shoppers if someone is tampering with their handbag.

Swingers in Suspenders Sunday Dec 7th

Barrow is big on Centre Stage events and the next show, “Swingers in Suspenders” on Sunday December 7th will definitely help to get you into the festive mood. It follows on from the Switching on of the Christmas Lights and is part of Barrow’s Christmas festivities. The show is described as “cheeky cabaret with a swing; a show that will definitely appeal to the over 50s as well as the huge number of young swing fans; for anyone who likes MGM musicals, film noire, nostalgia, romance…and suspenders!”
The venue is Humphrey Perkins Community Centre, Cotes Road, Barrow upon Soar LE12 8JU starting at 7.00pm. Tickets are available from the Paper Shop and will cost £7.00 (£8.00 on the door) and concessions £5.00 (£6.00 on the door). A family ticket (two adults and two children) will cost £20 (£24 on the door).
If you want to know more, try phoning Judith Rodgers on 07718153117.
The 1930s, 40s and 50s are brought back to life by performers Jo King and Alexi Harden with live piano, trumpet, sax and guitar. Dance, comedy, puppetry, fab costumes (including suspenders!) and superstar guest stars are all used to create a vaudeville cabaret evening of first class entertainment (Joan Crawford, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby have already agreed to be part of the fun!). It is a family show weighted towards the grandparents…but with enough silliness to keep the youngsters amused! When the show visited a village not too far from Barrow, someone in the audience commented “An excellent evening. Very funny, lots of laughter, the audience enjoyed the mix of comedy, singing and audience participation. Very professional.” « Less
